20 Overtaking

20.1 Cross-Country Overtaking

Situations will arise when slower solar cars (and their accompanying support vehicles) will need to pull over when being overtaken by a faster-moving solar car. Failure to pull over, or recklessly pulling out into the path of a passing solar car, will result in a major penalty. In the event that one team is overtaken by another team, the faster team must signal their intention to pass by flashing the lead vehicle’s headlights.

20.2 Closed-Track Overtaking

On a closed-track event, the faster team must signal their intention to pass by sounding their horn. The slower team must then give way by slowing down or pulling over to allow the faster team to pass. Safety is the primary consideration here.
